Why
do you worship God? And why in this way? God does not need our worship, but
we need it. Our worship is not just action or exercise; it has meaning and
goals to affect us. For example, our
prayer would be just action and exercise, if:
- We raise our hands at
the beginning of prayer saying
“God is Greatest”, but we do not concentrate
and reverence (have Khushoo’) in
our prayer.
-
We stand up in one line, shoulder by shoulder, but we still are
prejudiced.
- We put our face in the ground, in the Prostration “sujood”, but
we still have arrogant.
The
Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him) said: “There may be
people who fast and get nothing from their fast except hunger, and there may
be those who pray qiyaam and get nothing from their qiyaam but a sleepless
night.” Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 1690; classed as saheeh by Ibn Hibbaan,
8/257, and by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 10/83.
